The Legend of the Blickensderfer

It has long been the tradition of the Scottsdale Westerners to hold a book raffle during each meeting where members bring their old books to raffle off and win 'new' ones to take home. Over the course of many meetings, one particular book - the very same book - kept reappearing again and again at each meeting.

Like a homing pigeon, a faithful dog, or a bad case of intestinal flu, The Blickensderfer would return each month, never finding a permanent home or an adoring owner.

In honor of its migratory powers, it is now the tradition of the Scottsdale Westerners that whomever wins The Blickensderfer during the book raffle MUST return it at the next meeting so that it may be raffled again. Winners are entitled to sign their name (and any message) inside the book and have their picture taken.

Those have won and returned The Blickensderfer report it to be a rich, rewarding, spiritual experience akin to reaching Nirvana, falling in love for the first time, or having a really good cup of coffee. But WOE be to those unfortunate souls who forget to return The Blickensderfer by the next meeting! They have suffered a wide range of misfortunate and bad luck including financial loss, injury, bad breath, parking tickets, missing socks and an occasional itchy rash. Beware the Curse of The Blickensderfer!
